About Ovarian Cysts
Ovarian cysts are fluid filled sacs that grow within the ovaries. During the monthly process of menstruation the follicles in the ovaries develop. One follicle will house the maturing egg, once the egg has matured and is ready for fertilization the brain releases a leutenizing hormone (LH) from the pituitary gland that will trigger the release of the egg. However, there are some cases wherein the brain is not able to produce sufficient amounts of LH and the egg is not release causing a functional ovarian cyst. In other instances the egg may be released from the follicle but the sac is not dissolved, instead it is filled with the fluid surrounding it and becomes enlarged also resulting in an ovarian cyst.

Ovarian cysts such as these are considered safe since they are normally benign and disappear without any treatment. There may exceptions to the case, though. An ovarian cyst may continue to grow and twist in the ovaries causing pain and bleeding. This may also cause the cyst to rupture.
Surgery is often the only treatment that can be done for ovarian cysts that do not disappear on their own. Physicians may prescribe oral birth control pills to prevent the monthly menstrual cycle but this may be more of a preventer rather than a cure itself; it can happen that when an ovarian cyst is already present these pills cause it to enlarge even more. For these reasons many have taken a more natural approach when it comes to dealing with ovarian cysts.
